fusion-text-1\"><p>So it\u2019s a whole two years since I began the amazing, sometimes challenging, sometimes exhilarating, journey of founding my business, The Talent Cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Many of my clients often contemplate becoming self-employed, or even those looking for another role can learn a lot from the knowledge of us freelancers.\u00a0 So whether you\u2019re going through a redundancy situation, looking to change career or have dreams of becoming the next Steve Jobbs, here are some top tips to help you on your way.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Nobody is you and that\u2019s your superpower<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I talk to my clients a lot about imposter syndrome.\u00a0 That feeling that we\u2019re not good enough, or we\u2019re in the wrong place.\u00a0 Someone will eventually find us out, right? Wrong.\u00a0 You\u2019re amazing, you need to start believing that.\u00a0 Self-belief is key when you\u2019re either job hunting or selling your business.\u00a0 It\u2019s very easy to get distracted by \u2018compartinitus\u2019 but stay in your own lane and focus on your own knowledge, experience and skills.\u00a0 Your very own blend of these are what makes you unique and why you\u2019re not the same as the person next to you\u2026.and that\u2019s a great thing.<\/p>\n<p>But not sure what those things are?\u00a0 Working with a coach can help you with this and not just in a \u2018blue sky thinking\u2019 way but in more practical terms too.\u00a0 A lot of the CV coaching I do with clients also really helps them to identify their own brand of amazingness.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Know thy voice &#8211; personal branding and selling yourself<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Linked to this is knowing your voice.\u00a0 Who you are and what you stand for, being comfortable in your own skin and selling that voice to others.\u00a0 Knowing your values and motivators will help with this and keep you going on the dark days where you wonder if you\u2019ll ever get another client and the even darker days where you wonder if you\u2019ll ever have time to support all the clients you have.<\/p>\n<p>Your voice is part of your brand, it\u2019s what people are buying as much as the products or services you offer or the experience you\u2019re selling to an employer.\u00a0 In my recent \u2018get employers chasing you\u2019 masterclass, I talk about this in more detail and explained about the concept of becoming liked, known and trusted.\u00a0 Humans want to do business with humans, even in this digital world we find ourselves in.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Expect the unexpected<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And no I\u2019m not just talking about the pandemic.\u00a0 You never know where a chance conversation or a discussion on someone\u2019s latest LinkedIn update can lead.\u00a0 Make yourself known and heard, always.<\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t let this cripple you with fear over whether to take something on or not.\u00a0 Sometimes my clients worry that if they say \u2018yes\u2019 to this role, then they\u2019ll be saying \u2018no\u2019 to this role, or this other opportunity.\u00a0 The reality is that what is meant for you, will find you and as one door closes, another opens.\u00a0 Decide how you make a decision, whether you\u2019re a \u2018gut feel\u2019 person or a data and analysis kinda gal, then use that to inform your decision and go with it.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Say yes and then learn how to do it &#8211; your skills are more transferable than you think<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Richard Branson is famous for this quote and I have to be honest, it\u2019s one I\u2019ve lived by for a long time.\u00a0 For me this isn\u2019t about taking on things I can\u2019t do or handle, it\u2019s really about confidence.\u00a0 As a newly self-employed person, you\u2019ll have lots of firsts.\u00a0 From the first person someone asks you your day rate, to the very first (and very exciting) first invoice you send off.\u00a0 Let your confidence shine through, even when you\u2019re not quite feeling it.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Appreciate your network<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>They may be future clients, the may refer people your way or they may just support you and bring you up on the tough days and celebrate with you on the fun ones.\u00a0 And whether you\u2019re self-employed or looking for employment, it\u2019s well known that networks are crucial (85% of roles are secured through networking).<\/p>\n<p>But as well as asking of them, it\u2019s also important to give as well.\u00a0 So whether that\u2019s passing on your own referrals or giving great feedback and testimonials, supporting each other is of benefit to
